The Centre Pompidou in Paris, housing the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information (Public Information Library),  the Musée National d’Art Moderne (which is the largest museum for modern art in Europe,) and IRCAM, a centre for music and acoustic research.

The brightly colored exoskeleton of the Pompidou is actually a color-coded display of  its mechanical systems: blue pipes are for climate control, green for the plumbing, yellow pipes carry the electrical wires, and safety features, such as fire extinguishers, are in red.

What a way to spend an evening!

Is it apparent to you that I am posting from Anywhere-But-Here Land in a desperate attempt to escape the arctic cold blanketing my real world?

Researchers have identified the chromosome that–among other things–enables homing pigeons to unerringly find their way back to the roost. According to scientists involved in the study, one of the genes they discovered gives pigeons the ability to read subtle signs in their environment, signs that other species of birds miss.

I generally try to limit my posts to 4 or 5 images, but there is so much astonishing art in this setting that I am finding it nearly impossible to winnow down to just a handful. So, to balance off all those images, I will remain quiet for a bit.
