Statler and Waldorf at the Norton

Absolute serendipity, but the Norton Museum in Palm Beach recently acquired 40 portraits by photographer Annie Leibovitz. And, there we were, a mere 40 miles from this incredible show.

You’ve probably seen most of the pictures featured at some time or another–Leibovitz portraits of American artists like Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Tom Cruise, Richard Avedon and Merce Cunningham are iconic. My little point and shoot was just smoking as I was trying to capture everything from mats and frames and presentation to–yes– many of the pictures. I was truly blown away. When we finished with the whole museum, I went back for one more tour of the show.

So, who are the guys featured above? Museum guards. These guys were carrying on full-sound conversations with each other like it was just the two of them in the backyard:

What’s it all about? I dunno. Some radical photography. I dunno. I don’t get it. You know what I like? Sculpture. A nice sculpture. Me? I like the stuff from right after World War II.  Now that’s some nice stuff.

Ah…remember the old Muppet Show?

Statler: Wake up you old fool. You slept through the show.
Waldorf: Who’s a fool? You watched it.

Can’t share any Leibovitz portraits with you, but here’s a fully-original Wabi Sabi stealth portrait.
